HSCC Program
Today's BDPA Triangle Chapter Saturday Academy schedule for today, Feb 13, 2010 is canceled due to inclement weather. We will have orientation on Feb 20, 2010 at 9:00 am and our first session at 10:00 at NCCU.
The BDPA Thought Leaders are concerned with current statistics that show minorities lagging behind in the Information Technology arena. In an attempt to address this issue, and give our youth a competitive edge in college and the job market, BDPA sponsors an annual High School Computer Competition Program, now called the Student Information Technology Education Scholarship (SITES) and Awards Program. This program is aimed at increasing the success of students who enter the technology-laden workplace and collegiate environments by exposing them to the rigors of work life through development of Computer, Information and Internet Technology Skills to solve business problems.
Students who participate in the program will receive valuable training in leading edge technologies, as well as will be given the opportunity to compete against other teams on the national level for college scholarships. While learning the principles of being an effective team player, participants will be able to create bonds with other teens from the community who share common goals and interests. College and Military Bound Students also gain a tremendous benefit by learning new Internet and Information Technology Skills that will help them keep pace with their changing educational and workplace environments.
The program will kick off with all Triangle interested students completing a written assessment test to measure their knowledge of basic computer technology principles and terms. The top thirty scorers will be notified and asked to participate in the program. Those students will attend weekly sessions to orient them in various computer technologies and programming concepts including Database, Personal Web Server Technologies and Web Page Development. At the conclusion of the program, five students will be selected to represent BDPA-Triangle at the National High School Computer Competition, which will be held in conjunction with National BDPA Conference from July 2010. The competition team will enjoy an all expense paid trip (except for the registration fee) to the conference, as well as be allowed to participate in the Student Mini-Conference, and all other planned student activities. The purpose of the National High School Computer Competition is to educate high school students about Information Technology through competition and teamwork.
